Isha Harnal_HRLP020_Self Leadership_Sep'11

In our last self-leadership session we had an amazing experience of the laughter yoga session followed by a truly inspiring session by Anil Sachdev sir. The morning kicked off with a yoga session of laughter which actually was very difficult for a lot of people as all of us had to laugh our hearts out and it was difficult to get it out of no reason. But slowly everyone got glued into the moment and slowly it seemed like a very natural laughter session. It made us all leave light hearted and extremely happy. We also got a lot of information and facts about how to handle stress in life.

Basically stress is all within the mind and there are several factors that lead to making the stress dominate the mind. Everyone has different stress areas known as the stress points. They can be cognitive, emotional, physical or behavioural. So everyone realized what category they fall under as per the symptoms from these areas. It isn’t that stress should just never be there, a bit of it is actually not that bad as to some extent it can also be a major reason for making a person get structured and do things orderly. All these actually left us all very light.

Following all this we went in for the second session all fresh and light hearted for Anil Sir’s session. Here came along a lot of learning and thinking of things that a lot of us simply ignore in our real lives. One of the most important things we learnt about was the immunity to change concept. This actually made us all think in a totally different direction that our mind is normally used to of. We focussed on two things:
-       What change would you want within yourself
-       What is the hidden commitment against brining out that change

We see that all of us are not extremely happy with ourselves and we want a change within in ourselves in some or the other way. We even know what we don’t like in ourselves or what change do we want to bring within ourselves. But the real question is that are we really trying hard enough to bring out that change within ourselves? A lot of times we really try and do something about it but end up not being successful in doing so. Now, the interesting part comes here. We were made to think that what is it that doesn’t let us bring that change or what is it in us that dominates our mind every time when we thing of making that change possible. So it is basically something hidden in you that does not let you do so. It might be something that you enjoy and don’t admit that you can stop doing it and hence while prioritizing in your mind between that change and that hidden commitment, your mind overpowers the hidden commitment over that change. This is the reason why we end up not being successful in brining that change in ourselves.

This is what the hidden commitment is all about. For example, one change I want to bring out in myself is that I want to manage my time well in a structured way. Now I know that I really want this and I even try sometimes to bring in this change within me but still I do not end up in doing the same. Now the question is WHY? From within I know the answer as well and all of us know our own answers from within. In my case basically the hidden commitment is that I enjoy doing things in my way without making any structured efforts of managing the time. So this hidden commitment is something that I really enjoy and hence bringing out that change becomes difficult. This is what happens with a lot of people. We all know that we want to change but it is our hidden commitments that overpower the mind from within. Hence if anyone wants to talk about bringing a change within themselves then starting off by listing down how to bring it, what is more important as the first step is to realize that what is the hidden commitment behind it and are we really ready to give up on it to bring out the change? This will tell everyone how badly they want the change to happen and only then can one start the further steps of thinking how to bring that change knowing the hidden commitments.

Hence the session made us all think about our hidden commitments and made us realize the truth behind why change doesn’t come easily in everyone even though we try hard enough to bring it out.
