Arpit Gupta_BLP055_Self Leadership_Sep’11

It was one of most awaited class in SOIL for me, class by Mr. Anil Sachdev on self leadership. We have had many lectures on leadership so now what was so special in this lecture?
It was a special class on self leadership. We were informed about the 6 layers of self and how to gain understanding of the layers to steer our lives better. We were to learn about self leadership, and one of the most important things which I learned here was to learn: how to learn? Learning requires fully presence, right attitude and right effort too. It was a class in which I got a chance to introspect myself on some basic questions e.g.
·         When you were at you best and you learn effortlessly?
·         Root cause of success in learning?
·         Who are the people in your life that matters to you and what are their needs and how you are moved to serve?
·         How can I leverage my values and gifts to serve these needs?
Self leadership can be defined as the process of influencing ourselves and developing the self-motivation needed to perform. Self-leadership is not simply self-discipline; it is a set of well-defined strategies for personal improvement.
This was followed by Appreciative Inquiry, which I feel is one of the most powerful tools enabling a person to know his real self, understand his greater purpose in life and strike out how he with his existing knowledge & strengths have the capability in achieving it. It tells you that you have all what you want.
Than is second session we got to learn about Purpose and Goal, there is a difference in purpose and goal, goal comes out of purpose and it’s time bound. So what’s purpose of your life?
Then I learn that biggest leader is the biggest follower as he follows the cause.
In third session I learnt about the HABIT effect:
H: Hard to leave as the intellect stops you.
A: Add as the heart wants you to.
B: Body and But which keeps on reminding you and creating the urge in you.
I: IGO: EGO: The final and the most hard step.

T: Finally the transformation which has so many predecessors.
All this can be achieved through unconditional love for a purpose which over powers the ego in us which is stopping us all the time. Unconditional love can take us to final T which is the transformation.
In last session I got to know about a new term Immunity X-ray…In this session I learnt why people find it difficult to change?
·         What aspect do you need to change?
·         What do I do actually do instead of doing that?
·         Hidden competing commitment.
·         Assumptions behind your commitment.
In between the class we also learnt about the upcoming guest lecture by Mr. Rajiv Dubey, Group HR head Mahindra. Interestingly he never stood 2nd in any exams. And about the story of fire walk at Mumbai.
It’s done by people to remove their fear which they hold within them. All the people who come there to experience it have to clear their heart and should not force others to walk on the fire. People should make fire as their friend then only they will be able to walk over it.
