Sumit Kamra_BLP009_Self Leadership_Sep'11

It was a great day when we had our self leadership class with Anil Sir. It was a great learning. We came to know the meaning or the word “habit”. If we remove ‘h’ from this word then still remains a bit. Further if we remove ‘a’ then still bit is remaining. Even though if we remove ‘b’ then still it remaining. So it tells that its not easy to get rid of any kind of habit. It takes lot of concentration and hard work and passion. We also learned that though we know becoming perfect is not possible but still if someone keeps on trying then can reach upto a level where everyone else look that person as perfect. Its just matter of time. Its not only perception of people about you which makes you different from others but also it’s the hard work and concentration which one put in his/her work to show his/her abilities.
There were many topics which were discussed but some which I’m mentioning here are more important according to me.
1.    Purpose of life
2.    Values which cant be compromised
3.    How to leverage my talent to become a good leader and make this place a better place to live
4.    What example I need to quote in this world to make me memorable till centuries
I also learned how to be specific in goals. There is a different in aim and goal and one needs to be clear about it. Also each goal can be achieved if it is “SMART”. While achieving a goal one needs to define milestones in before and need to keep track of them.
I also learned that it’s the fire inside me gets ignited very easily but difficult task is to rise its flame and never ever let it go down. I need to make sure that which path I am following to achieve my goals and what path I am taking for that. Whether it goes with my values or not and if not then I need to change the path.
We did read about the book “immunity to report”. Immunity to report is not only a book, it gives the true picture of what exactly happens in todays world. Leaders who view capacity of their subordinates as fixed assets become followers but leaders who enable the growth of capacity of the organization always lead. One needs to learn how to formulate challenges as adaptive. It tells us that one has to link personal and organizational development and has to become clear that what the potential obstacles are. This book summarizes that mental growth continues after adolescence, that there is a distinction between technical and adaptive learning, that people have an intrinsic motivation to grow, that these kind of mindset changes take time, and that they involve both thinking and feeling, that reflection and action are interdependent and enable each other, and that there needs to be sufficient safety and support for facing the risks in this depth of change of mindset.
