Dealing With resistance:

Overcoming resistance, which is an emotional process, is very critical for flawless consulting.It is not advisable to fight resistance head on and should be allowed to
blow itslef out.There are three steps for handling resistance :
1. Pick up the cues by paying closing attention to client's non verbal & verbal messages.
2. Use neutral language to describe the resistance understood from the first step.
3. Let the client respond to what you asked in step 2 rather than you keep on talking.This will enforce client to take responsibility for their actions.
The most important part of this aspect is that the consultant should not take anything personally.

From Diagnosis to Discovery:

When one is ready to deal with resistance, then comes the phase to develop an independent & fresh way of looking at what is going on and to create a process that leads
to client commitment, ownership & action. There are two processes for discovery phase :
1.Problem based dicsovery process (focus is on problems)
2.Future & Strength based discovery process (focus is on possibilities)
Whatever method one choses to go ahead with, focus on relationships still remains important in the discovery phase.It is very much important that the client
is part of overall discovery to implementaion phase and takes ownership of the action that needs to be taken.
